The Devil's Test: Faith Under Fire

The Devil tempts and God tests. While the Devil wants to steal God's word from us and stop our faith, God wants to prove that our faith is real. The Devil tempts us to do evil, to cause us to stumble, while God tests us to do good, to cause us to stand, to make our faith strong and pure. God does not want us to depend on our own strength to flee temptation, but to depend totally and completely on Him.

The testing of our faith is a blessing because it leads to spiritual growth and maturity. James wrote, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds" (James 1:2). When we overcome tests, we grow spiritually, which brings joy in Heaven and should also bring joy to us (1 Peter 1:7).

God does not want us to rely on our own strength to resist temptation, but to depend completely on Him. He will never allow us to be tested beyond what we can handle with His power (2 Corinthians 12:9).

Therefore, when God tests our faith, it is to prove that it is genuine, to strengthen it, and to reveal to us that our faith is real and more precious than gold.

The Devil wants to steal God's Word from us

However, we must remember that God is sovereign and in control, even when we face trials and temptations. God allows Satan to test us, but He uses these tests to strengthen our faith and reveal our weaknesses. As 1 Peter 1:7 ESV says:

> "so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ."

Our faith is refined and purified through these trials, and we emerge stronger and more resilient.

To withstand the Devil's schemes, we must cling firmly to God's Word and say "NO!" to the Devil. We must recognize that God is faithful and trustworthy, even when our circumstances seem to contradict it. We must also remember that Jesus is always with us, ready to help us through every trial.

Additionally, we should not rely on our own strength to resist temptation, but instead, depend wholly on God. As 1 Corinthians 10:13 says:

> "No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make a way of escape, that you may be able to bear it."

By surrendering to Christ and yielding to our new nature in Him, we can overcome the Devil's attempts to steal God's Word from us.

God wants us to depend on Him

We should not rely on our own understanding but submit to Him, and He will guide us. This is a recurring theme in the Bible, with Proverbs 3:5-6 stating:

> Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

God is always present and wants to help us. As Psalm 73:26 says, "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." We can depend on God's strength when we are weak, as Isaiah 40:29 states, "He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak."

God is also a source of comfort and protection. We can find refuge in Him, as Psalm 16:1 says, "Keep me safe, my God, for in you I take refuge." He is our shepherd, as Psalm 23:1-2 says, "The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters."

We can also depend on God to provide for our needs. As Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope." God wants us to come to Him with our requests, as John 15:7-8 says, "Ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this: that you bear much fruit and prove to be my disciples."

When we depend on God, we find contentment and confidence, knowing that we are obeying His will. As Proverbs 16:9 says, "A man's heart plans his way, but the Lord determines his steps." By trusting in God and inviting Him into our daily lives, we can be transformed into the image of Christ.

God tests us to make our faith strong and pure

When we are tested, God wants us to depend on Him completely, rather than on our own strength. God already knows that our faith is real, but through testing, He proves it to us, so we know that no trial will overcome our faith. Our faith is more precious than gold (1 Peter 1:7), and when we overcome tests, we grow spiritually, which causes joy in Heaven and should encourage us to rejoice as well.

God's tests are not to harm us, but to strengthen our faith and draw us closer to Him.
